striving-for-knowledge

STRIVING FOR KNOWLEDGE

“An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” Benjamin Franklin

According to the Oxford Dictionary, striving means to make a great effort or fight vigorously to achieve or obtain something. After going through the definition of strive, you should by now have an idea of what it means to strive for knowledge. Since knowledge is something you can not do without to achieve success in your academics, career, and life in general, it, therefore, means you have to put in all the effort needed to get knowledge. Knowledge doesn’t just drop on people’s laps, it must be consciously fought for vigorously.

In a computer age like this with knowledge accessible via the internet, it is now possible to get all the knowledge you need with a push of the button on a phone. With so much access to tools for knowledge, there is, therefore, no excuse for not succeeding. Knowledge has never been available around the world at this level. It is therefore on you to take full advantage of this.

The story of Sean Parker, the first president of Facebook, comes to mind at a time like this. In his childhood, Parker was an avid reader, which was the beginning of his lifelong success on Facebook and other businesses like Spotify (an online music streaming company). He was very much given to his school books and many other personal developments and career development books via the internet. He took full advantage of the knowledge that was available to achieve his dreams.

Nothing of real value can be achieved by anyone who does not strive for knowledge. Striving for knowledge will not always be fun, but it will always be worth it years later when you achieve your dreams. Therefore decide today to strive for knowledge like Sean Parker so you too can be among the high fliers in a few years from now.

I would love to hear about how you are striving for knowledge. It will also be great if you have any pointers on the topic. Looking forward to seeing all of that in the comment section.

work-on-your-belief

WORK ON YOUR BELIEF

“Just as no one can be forced into belief, so no one can be forced into unbelief.” – Sigmund Freud.

If you want to get better at anything, you must work hard because success does not come by wishful thinking. You may not think you are capable enough or have the necessary skills to achieve your goals, but the good news is that you can work on improving your belief and self-confidence. The feeling of inadequacy is not peculiar to you; some of the most successful people also felt the same way, but they worked on their belief system over time even when it didn’t feel like they would succeed.

Successful people work on their mindset by speaking positively about their ability to succeed. People around you and your mind will always want to tell you that you are not good enough based on one or more failures in the past. If you believe that to be correct and keep quiet, the consequences will be negative. You will need to talk down such thoughts by sometimes speaking out loud that you are very much capable of achieving success. Don’t let anyone make you believe that you cannot understand that subject, complex topic, or a new skill.

Successful people can speak up inside and outside when unbelief creeps in because they have learned how to work on their beliefs by reading lots of books and articles like this one. You, too, can follow their step by consistently reading things like B2SL weekly blog posts and other books to help you build your confidence and stay motivated for success.

It’s imperative to note that wherever you are presently is not new under the sun. Other people have been in your shoes in the past and still went on to be successful in their different life pursuits. You can keep working on your belief by reading biographies of successful people. You can see their struggles when they were like you and how they overcame them. Studying other successful people will consistently help you fill your belief bank as their stories will always relate to your journey as they have with mine.

Like our quote rightly says, no one can force you into believing. You will need to consistently work at it yourself because it lies primarily within your power to make it work.

How have you been working on your belief? I will love to get more points from you in the comments section so others can learn from you.

be-realistic-in-your-quest-for-excellence

BE REALISTIC IN YOUR QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE

“Excellence is the unlimited ability to improve the quality of what you have to offer.” – Rick Pitino.

Being realistic is always very important, so you don’t have to start a journey without knowing where you are coming from or where you are going. It would be best if you had a practical idea of what you could expect to achieve. For example, how many steps can you take in a day? How many pages can you read in a day?  In your quest for excellence, you must be very clear about what distinction is and what it is not. With such clarity, you will achieve excellence in your academics and career in the face of seeming mediocrity.

With that out of the way, you will agree that most people look forward to achieving excellence in their endeavor, but not many do. The challenge in most cases is that they don’t know what excellence is and is not, so they end up treading the path of mediocrity, doing far little below their ability.

Excellence is not just about getting the significant results that everyone celebrates. It’s more about having small wins here and there that accumulate into the bigger goal. We can see this clearly from Max Verstappen, the 2021 Formula one (World car racing) champion.

At the 2015 Australian Grand Prix, when Max Verstappen was aged 17 years, 166 days, he became the youngest to compete in Formula One. From then till 12th December 2021, when he won his first Formula one Championship, he has always been having small wins here and there right from the lower level.

When Verstappen was in the lower level (Formula three) where the whole world was not much focused on, he kept making small wins that took him from Formula three to Formula two before he eventually made it to Formula One. Since getting into formula one in 2015, he kept challenging and getting small wins before becoming the world champion.

We can see clearly that his quest for excellence had always shown since he was in Formula three. So, you don’t have to get to the very top to do things excellently well. You can be excellent even at the lowest level by having small wins. Apply the principle in the next skill you intend to learn. Learn a bit today, and another tomorrow and so on. Before long, you will become a champion if you are consistent. As the ancient saying goes, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step”.
