December Newsletter

The yuletide season is here, and here is B2sl and my humble self wishing you a happy Christmas celebration and New Year in advance.

The 2019 journey has been smooth and well calculated I guess for all those who planned and were focused on their goals. So much has been achieved already and maybe some things are yet to prove through, not to worry you will do better in 2020. This implies that preparations for the New Year should begin now. Did I just notice you raising an eyebrow at the mention of “preparation”? Yes preparation is key, in fact, it is how to end the year and start a new one as a student.

You take charge of the New Year by setting new goals (realistic ones), be resolute in achieving them by constantly reviewing them. Another thing you should take into cognizance is consistency. In 2020 you must imbibe the habit of consistency because it is one of the characteristics of successful people.

Let me tell you a thing about the lion and the gazelle; According to Muhammed bin Rasheed Al Maktoum, in his book ‘My Vision’ he said “With each new day in Africa, a gazelle wakes up knowing he must outrun the fastest lion or perish; At the same time, a lion stirs and stretches knowing he must outrun the fastest gazelle or starve. It is no different for the human race. Whether you consider yourself a gazelle or a lion, you simply have to run faster than others to survive” see? You simply have to be ahead of others by planning and being consistent with your plans.

B2sl encourages you never to give up in your life pursuits, be the best at what you do and always remember that you have a dream to fulfill. Don’t forget log on to our site and read life changing articles that will inspire you to succeed.Have a beautiful holiday you all.

4 HABITS OF RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE

Being responsible is a sign of how much value you have put on yourself. Being responsible means being dependable (people can depend on you), keeping promises and honoring your commitments. It is accepting the consequences for what you say and do. It also means taking control of developing your potentials. The four points below show what being responsible looks like.

         1. RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE ARE CONSISTENT

People who are responsible don’t do hit or miss. They find a routine that works for them and stick to it. For instance, they don’t just study for three hours in a row and then give up on studying for 3 weeks, instead they spend three hours every day studying their books and get better at it.Consistency also means keeping your words and following through with commitments you make to yourself and others. When you are consistent, people can depend on you because they know you are going to do what you say.

         2. RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE DON’T MAKE EXCUSES

People who are responsible don’t make excuses for their actions or blame others when things go wrong. They think things through and use good judgment before they act. They behave in ways that encourage others to trust them. They don’t make up excuses for why they failed a subject but get back on their feet and decide to do better next time.

        3. RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE ARE GOAL SETTERS

People who are responsible take charge of their lives no matter what is happening around them. They make plans and set goals for nurturing their talents, skills and achieving success in academics. They don’t give up while working on their goals no matter the adversity. They make decisions that focus on achieving their goals daily.

       4. RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE SEE THE BIG PICTURE

People who are responsible always see themselves as positive change agents in their community and country. They decide to be part of the solution and not the problem. They believe that their actions go a long way in determining the kind of country that will be built in their lifetime. They also know that a country is only called successful when individuals take responsibility. So, they consistently take responsibility for their actions and ultimately become successful.

November Newsletter

Everything that has a beginning has an end. January 2019 seems like yesterday and now the herald of December is here. How time flies! I am sure most of you can still remember vividly how you wished other people a happy new year which is now an old year racing to its end.

November may mean different things to different people. It may mean ‘rounding off time’’, fine tuning your plans, re-strategizing altogether, or being thankful for life that enables you to go on with your set plans especially around your school work and career choice.

The end of the first term is fast approaching and that means examinations are around the corner. During this time of the year, activities like end of year parties, Christmas Carols, and others may cause you to be distracted. While it is good to enjoy the moment and be happy, it is important to be focused on your school work as there will be more than enough parties in the future. Study and pass your exams with good grades.

The topic for the month is “valuing yourself”. We’ll look at topics like dealing with your emotions, how to be more responsible and the importance of chastity. The b2sl team has put all this together   because we care about your success and we want to help you succeed. Placing value on yourself will help you take charge of the rest of the year.

Wishing you all the best.

future

Take Responsibility of Your Future

Nature over nurture? That is the question. Do you believe you are where you are because of your parents’ influence or because of your own decisions? Take Joyce for instance, who grew up in the worst part of town. Having most of her childhood friends either die from avoidable diseases, killed in cult wars or amount to nothing, she beats the odds and becomes a successful member of the society in her chosen field. And Janet, who grew up in the best part of town, ate at the best places, graduated together with all her friends and can’t seem to succeed at anything over twenty years later. Were they born that way or did their parents nurture lead them to where they ended up?

I believe our parents play a grand role in what happens to us. They give us a cultural, religious and moral foundation. They pay our school fees and send us on trips according to their income. They do as much as they can for most of us, creating an enabling environment in the home for us to thrive. However, the major decision making starts with us. We should make the right choices in every step of our lives, bearing in mind that our parents can give us guidance when we stumble. We should display the right character and attitude to everything, whether someone is watching or not.

No matter the cards life deals us, our response to every situation makes the difference. Make the decision to do the right thing no matter your upbringing!

October Newsletter

October!  October!!  October!!!   A month that speaks of freedom, of course the 1st of October 1960, Nigeria got her independence and so I salute the nation on her 59th year anniversary. The independence is a call to be patriotic to one’s nation, even though the dwindling economic situation is not encouraging. Nevertheless, no matter the situation the zeal to succeed is still on.

Students like to be independent and free, but freedom is not always free after all. There is always a price to pay. Just as the gazelle wakes up in the morning and preparing to out run the lion who wants to make her his prey, so also the lion prepare to catch the gazelle or another prey to satisfy its hunger. So should student also at all times be prepared for obstacles they may face in life in other to succeed no matter what they are. We know no challenge is greater than any human, but due to fear, inexperience and anxiety students tends to believe otherwise.

Also, October 5th, celebrates some special set of persons in the society who teaches, train and act as second parent to mold the life of student to become better individuals. The work of these individuals cannot be over emphasized because their work has a long term effect on the student.

Students are hereby advised to always appreciate, respect and adhere to the teachings of their teachers as it will make them better citizens, since they are the future leaders.
